Are We A Good Fit?

Is Therapy with us the Right Fit?

Finding the right therapist is an important part of the healing process.

Therapy works best when you feel safe, understood, and supported — and when we’re both confident that our style and approach are a good match for your needs.

This page is designed to help you decide whether working together might be a good fit — and to help us ensure we can offer the right kind of support for you.

How We Work

We offer therapy that is gentle, relational, and trauma-informed, integrating:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) as a core modality
  • Parts- and attachment-informed approaches (Internal Family System)
  • Somatic awareness, mindfulness, and compassion-based strategies
  • Elements of ACT, DBT, CBT, and EFT where helpful

We work collaboratively and at your pace — helping you build resources for emotional safety and self-understanding before moving into deeper trauma processing.

Who We Work Best With

Online EMDR at Holding Space tends to work particularly well for adults who:

  • Have experienced trauma, complex trauma, or attachment-related wounds
  • Appear high-functioning on the outside but feel overwhelmed or shut down internally
  • Are professionals, caregivers, or parents carrying sustained responsibility
  • Feel anxious, burnt out, emotionally disconnected, or stuck despite insight
  • Want trauma therapy that is gentle, respectful, and collaborative
  • Value understanding why their system responds the way it does

You do not need to be certain that EMDR is right for you. Uncertainty is welcome here. We can explore fit together before making any decisions.

If you are still wondering, Is EMDR for Me? may help clarify next steps.

We're a Good Fit If You’re Looking For…

  • A safe, supportive space to explore and make sense of what’s happening inside
  • Therapy that honours your pace and readiness, especially around trauma or attachment themes
  • Support for anxiety, burnout, grief, perfectionism, people-pleasing, or relationship patterns
  • A therapist who integrates EMDR with parts-work and helps you connect to your inner world
  • Someone who values both depth and practicality — insight that also leads to change

We Might Not Be the Best Fit If…

  • You’re looking for reports, or medico-legal documentation
  • You want a purely skills-based or short-term CBT approach
  • You’re seeking crisis or emergency support (We're not available for same-day or after-hours contact)
  • You’re looking for couples or family therapy (We currently offer individual therapy only)
  • You prefer a very directive or prescriptive style — our approach is collaborative and exploratory

Before Booking

Before booking your first session, please:

  1. Read our EMDR and Getting Started pages to understand what therapy with us involves.
  2. Reflect on your goals — what would you like to feel, understand, or shift through therapy?
  3. Consider availability and readiness — EMDR and parts-informed work require regular attendance and a willingness to engage gently but honestly with your inner world.

If You’re Still Unsure

If you’ve read through these pages and still feel uncertain, that’s completely okay.

You’re welcome to get in touch to ask any questions or share what you’re hoping for from therapy.

If it sounds like we could be a good match, we’ll guide you toward the next step.

In some cases, we may suggest another therapist who might better meet your current needs.
